IS IT REALLY THAT TIME AGAIN?!

The NBA season is winding down with the Miami Heat up 3-1 over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Finals.  While most of the sports world is following this main event, another event is brewing. What is this event you ask?  This event is the famous Fantasy Football!

If you know me by now you know this Sportsnista lives for Fantasy Football.  I have been getting numerous emails from sporting websites to launch my Fantasy teams from last season.  Over the past few years Fantasy Football has gotten bigger than the NFL itself.  It is estimated that there are over 10 million people in Fantasy Football leagues.  This kind of exposure is bringing in revenue of up to $1 Billion.  USA Today was the first magazine to post  MLB Fantasy stats back in the 1980’s, now there are over 100 magazines that are strictly for the Fantasy Sports world.

Usually sometime in July, I find myself at newsstands picking up a few of those magazines to help with my draft.  I put serious hours into scouting who I want to draft and perfecting my roster after the draft. Why do I do this? I simply say for the Love of the game.  It is already a male dominated sport but when a woman can come into a male dominated league and beat the most knowledgeable of players, that is something worth bragging about.  I have been playing now for 5 years and the 2011-12 season was the first season that I did not win a Championship.  That will change this season and I guarantee it!!!

WHAT MAKES AN MVP?

As the 2012 NBA season is in full swing there have been talks of “if the season were over now who would be MVP”?  Would it be Lebron James who has lead Miami this season with a seemingly consistent injured Dwayne Wade.  Is it Derrick Rose who has led The Bulls to another incredible season, with an impressive 22-6 record.  Let’s not count out Chris Paul (CP3) who is averaging 18ppg and helping the once worst team in the NBA (LA Clippers) climb to be one of the top contenders in the league.

So what makes an MVP?  There are a lot of factors that go into becoming MVP.  It’s how you carry yourself on and off the court.  What type of leadership you can show to help your team be the best, it could be your teams record and don’t forget the personal stats.

Last season Derrick Rose catapulted to become the youngest NBA player to ever   win this prestigious award.  The Bulls ended the season with an astounding 62-20 record only 10 games behind the best record to ever be recorded 72-10 by none other than Michael Jordan and The Chicago Bulls.  Derrick Rose basically tripled his personal stats from the 2010 season, showed what a great leader he could be for the young Bulls team and he has been ever so humbled.   Nothing has changed in the 2012 season for the young MVP, which I believe is in one of the top spots to win it again, but if you ask him from his own words he doesn’t care about that all he cares about is “winning” the Championship that is!

So for all the players who are looking to win MVP this year take a few notes from Derrick Rose and if you say why?  Look at any Bulls game no matter where they are when that kid gets to the free throw line all you hear is “MVP, MVP, MVP”! NUFF SAID!

Will you introduce yourself to our So Fyh Readers?

 Thanks Dani for featuring me today. My name is Paulette Harper Johnson. I am a wife, speaker, radio host, author and the owner of WNL Virtual Blog Tours.

When did you start writing?

I started writing in 2007 with my first book "That Was Then, This Is Now" was released in 2008 and I’ve been writing ever since. 

Can you tell our readers what genre that you write and why?

 I’ve written two books and co-author two all in the Christian non-fiction genre. I’m currently working on my first Christian fiction book “The Sanctuary”

I absolutely love writing books to empower and inspire readers. I believe this is one of the reasons why I write non-fiction books.  My goal as a non-fiction writer is to enrich the lives of readers and to challenge those readers to grow spiritually. I want the books that I write to be engaging while allowing the words that are written to change their hearts.

What is your writing routine?

Before doing anything, I make sure I’m in a quiet area, free from distractions. When I’m ready to write, I sit at my laptop and begin writing. Depending on the chapter I’m working on, that determines the direction I’ll go. I am able to write as long as there is a constant flow.

What inspired you to write?

I believe it was a decision that God made for me. Actually becoming an author was far from what I anticipated for my life. I didn’t wake up one day saying I’m going to be author nor did I grow up with the desire to write. It was through my personal experiences in life, which drew me into this profession. It was through my writing I found it to be a source of therapy. While writing my first book "That Was Then, This Is Now", I begin to see how God healed and restored my life and what He did for me I felt I needed to share with people. It was at that moment that I realized that God wanted my writing to be used as a ministry. The books that I write are focused on inspiration and encouragement. These books can be used as pathways and guides for the readers to grow spiritually.

As a writer what you say has been your greatest achievement in the industry?

Every one of my achievements has been just as great as the others. That Was Then, This Is Now and Completely Whole have won book awards which add creditability to me as a writer.  I was one of the recipients of the 2010 AIM Literary Award. Presented by Bishop I.V. and Lady Bridget Hilliard on Oct 20, 2010 and the 2010 Jeweled Ministries Author of the year!

If someone wanted some advice about how to get started in writing what would you say to them?

There are many distractions that will continue to pull for our attention be it, home, ministry, family and/or job. For those aspiring authors there must be balance in your life, so you can prioritize those things that are important. It’s very important to follow your passion and don’t allow other things to take you off course.

As businesswoman and a career as a writer, how do you find the time to host virtual book tours, write books and work on websites is that hard to do all at once? Then what is your strategy? 

Don’t know if I have a particular strategy or not but somehow everything that I need to do gets done. Of course my business is very important and my clients are at the top of my list. There are times in which I wish I had more hours in the day but if I devote quality time to each of my projects things do get completed.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?

Sure. My next book is my first Christian fiction book called "The Sanctuary". The Sanctuary will make you laugh, cry, and get caught up in the drama-filled lives of the saints in Trinity Lakes.  The Sanctuary is book one of the "Trinity Lakes Series". It will be released later this year.

Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

Actually with my first book I didn’t run into any challenges getting it published. My experience was great.

Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them at all , or let them influence your writing?

To be honest, I appreciate reviews. Knowing that reviews are the opinions of the readers, I don’t get offended when someone doesn’t see my books like I do. Of course every author believes their books are the “bomb” but understanding that everyone has different taste, I accept all reviews. I need to hear what people are saying about my books. Reviews make others who are on the fence decide if they are going to buy any of my books. Reviews are one of many ways to reach readers who are a little leery about investing in new and aspiring authors.

“You know that I could just really scream from the top of my lungs! Josh has done it for the very last time. I’m so tired of him  taking his precious time in handling his responsibilities on this project! He is barely on time or never on time for that matter, and to top it off has some lame excuse always for why he is unable or late to do things, better yet completing them in a timely manner. “Well, well! Look who just decided to come into the office on time today? If it isn’t Mr. Josh himself. What is it now and what can it be possibly that is going to keep you from pulling your share of work today?” said London standing near her desk with her arms folded sucking her teeth and tapping her foot on the floor.

 “ Now come on London, you know that it’s not even like that.  Give me some credit on the real tip, and you know I’m not trying to make any excuses at all honestly. I pull my share around here, you are trying to make it seem like I don’t do anything, or could it be that I’m not jumping every time you say it. Please don’t start acting all brand new. Whatever, but I do have something to tell you though. Get this. I was just about to lay a little something pretty hot and heavy on the table that I believe will help us get this Marketing & Promotional Campaign rolling for sure. That was before you started with all that drama for your mama stuff. Dang my bad are you PMSing right about now London? Now you know I can come back a little later on,” said Josh.

“Oh really now, well you know I have got to sit down for this one, because this I’ve got to hear this, and no I’m not PMSing for your information,” said London while rolling her eyes at him.

“Come on,” said Josh. London please give me a little credit.”

“ Look Josh you know it doesn’t even matter for that point, it’s whatever,” uttered London.

“Get this I was just on the 3rd floor and I overheard Paul and Bill talking about this Charity Event that was going to take place in maybe four or five months over at Memories on the upper east side. I hear they’re even thinking about doing it around New York Fashion Week, tickets are going to be around $300 if not more. And from my understanding there are going to be some very important people there, like Perry Ellis, Vera Wang and Nicole Miller and so many more,” Josh said looking like a child in a toy store”.

“Ok, Josh let me get this straight, you want to attend this event why?” replied London.

“London, London, my dear friend and co-worker my girl what I’m saying is we can make some major connections for this campaign, besides it could place this department and us in a different arena,” said Josh as he was pleading his case to London.

“Well my dear friend and my co- worker Josh. I must have you know that I’ve been in contact with a few of the contributors that will be working at the said event, New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014. And it appears that they are wanting this department to help with their Marketing and Promotion,” said London with a small grin on her face.

“Dang London! You been holding out on me, so when were you going to let me know? asked Josh as he walked over to the window over looking the Big Apple. What’s up really girl, since when you start collecting African Art?”

“Josh don’t you even try to get off the subject at hand. I hope you know that its not nice to ease drop on other peoples’ conversations, and I will have you know I’ve been collecting them since college. Thank you very much.”

“That is not what I was doing, that isn’t my steelo. It’s not my fault they had the office door all-open. I just so happen to be walking by, and heard them, so I decided to stand there for a few minutes and keep right on listening,” replied Josh while laughing at himself.

“Well let me see what all is going to be involved and I will make sure to let you know if we can attend, I don’t want it to be a conflict of interest.”

“Dang girl,” said Josh. You sure do have a lot of figurines all over the place.”

“Would you please stop touching them before you break one and if you do your behind will be replacing it. So, onto a much brighter note, do you have the information I sent you via email yesterday afternoon? The subject said I needed it today. Please tell me you checked your email yesterday!” London spoke in an aggressive tone.

“ London,” said Josh. Before you get all upset and start freaking all out. Yes, I did check my email yesterday and I have the information that you requested printed out in a folder on my desk. Now will you just calm down and let me run to my office and get it okay, I’ll be right back London. I’ll be back in less than 5 minutes.”

“Josh you need to hurry up please!” London yelled. I really need that information. I need to finish the marketing plan and come up with a solid proposal for this campaign.”

Josh bolts for the door and down the hall he went, all you could see was the back of his head as if he’s running a relay race.

“Seriously, who ever the person was that came up with the saying, ‘Good help is so hard to find’ was right about that,” London said as she sits down at her desk.

There’s a firm knock at her office door. A very attractive man peaked his head in. Standing every bit of 6’ 5’’ with a body well taken care of, and he sure did an incredible job.

“May I come in?” said the ever so sexy mystery person.

“Sure I don’t see why not, please come in have a seat,” expressed London as she motioned for him to take a seat.

ENLARGE YOUR TERRITORY AND EXPAND YOUR BORDERS

2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes...   Isaiah 54:2 (KJV)

ENLARGE: to make larger; expand, to become larger, expand. 


How many of you are in this place?  You feel the stretching, the pulling, the expansion, the enlargement of your Spirit?  Go with it.  It is good for you.


 One morning I woke up in praise and worship to God. I was listening to Israel and New Breed's-TAKE THE LIMITS OFF.  As the song ministered to my Spirit, the voice of the Lord spoke to me in a still small voice and said "EXPANSION HAS COME FOR YOU AND IN YOU, PREPARE YOURSELF TO GO".(not that I have not heard this or been in this place before).  I began to weep and just tell the Father THANK YOU for the NEW Journey that lies ahead for HIS GLORY.


Then I began to think about my journey and what it has taken for me to arrive in this place only to realize that the whole journey has been one of ENLARGEMENT and EXPANSION.  I thought about how my journey began, not knowing anything other than what I was told and what I saw and how I began to mimic others, not aware that what I was mimicking was wrong. Moving on, I thought of how I came into the knowledge of the TRUTH of God and His Kingdom and what HE required of me. My first step of enlargement, dying to the flesh and living in the Spirit. Allowing God to detox me of the former teachings and information, learning HIS way.  Next, I just reflected on how the Father has grown me up in HIM. The hard lessons and places I've had to walk through (and yet do). The many nights of wondering, questioning and being of afraid of what "tragedy" was to come next in my life and God, are you really there?  Is this your will for my life?  The suffering, the pain, the agony, the disappointment, the slip ups, rejection....how can anything good come from all of this, I thought. 


Only to get to the other side of it all and realize that it was my making process.  God showed me and told me it was necessary for me to go through this process (me being the clay and HE being the  Potter) to be made the vessel HE needed and wanted me to be for HIS use.  I had to totally release and relinquish myself to the WILL, WAY, WORD and into the HANDS OF THE LORD to be ENLARGE AND EXPANDED.  The purpose?  I had to be made ready to hold the anointing, wisdom, word, understanding, and power of God so that HE could yet have access in this earth realm to manifest the Glory of HIS Kingdom. 


Why do you share this Apostle? I'm glad you asked.  I share this because many of us are still in a struggle of knowing who we are and what our God given purpose is in the earth and in the Kingdom.  We are still running here and there looking for man to confirm or validate our existence, when the reality is what we are searching for we already possess.  Some of us have allowed ourselves to be placed in positions (in ministry and life) that do not fit us, are not beneficial for us or to us and are not fulfilling us or the Will of God for our lives.  We sit frustrated and angry because we know there's more, but don't know how to get to it.  Well my brother's and sister's your DELIVERANCE HAS COME.  The inner turmoil  you are going through is your Heavenly Father getting your attention to say, it's time to COME UP HIGHER, it's time to EMBRACE and EMBODY the true essence of who you are IN HIM. IT'S TIME TO TAKE THE LIMITS OFF!!  The limits of yourself and the limits that man has placed on you.  Simply, it's time to follow the REAL, TRUE ORDER OF GOD.


When something or someone is ENLARGED/EXPANDED there is a greater capacity to hold more, there is more room to maneuver.  That's what the Father desires of and for us. Isaiah 54:2 says: Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitation: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes. (KJV).  The NLT says it like this: Enlarge your house(YOU, emphasis mine); build an addition; spread out your home!  What is God saying?  He is saying go beyond what you know or think you know, build or add onto what you have been taught (all has not been wrong or bad), don't be afraid to be different, take heed to HIS voice, stop being stiffled by the opinions of others or yourself.  God is saying make room for the more HE has for you and what He wants to put in you.  It's time to JUST DO IT!! (like Nike says).  When we outgrow clothes and shoes,etc, we get rid of them(either trashing them or blessing some else) to make room for new, right?  The same principle applies here.  Be encouraged my brother's and sisters.  Take heed and obey what YOU hear the Father speaking to you.  Don't worry, stop holding back just do it.   The Father has need of thee.   TAKE THE LIMITS OFF and ENLARGE YOUR TERRITORY.

There were several errors that made is difficult for me to read continuously. Many times I found myself having to re-read sentences to understand what was supposed to be there.  I didn't enjoy the constant analogies to TV Shows, music Lyrics, and the like, some seemed very wordy and didn't deliver the mental recollection that a much simpler description could have. DiamondStar Entertainment, is the brainchild of CEO- Anthony Stutts, who created D.S.E. with the intentions of helping those with drive, talent and focus , succeed in the  music industry.His primary goal was to take those individuals that knew where they wanted to be, but had no plan, or direction, bring that vision into reality. Saving Lives Through Lit is dedicated to our mission of Saving Lives Through Literature!  This is a vision that Founder Elizabeth Funderbirk thought up in 2010. In 2011 she approached friend and fellow author Kiexiza Rodriquez about her vision and together they brought it into reality.

Realizing domestic violence has been a issue for as long as one can remember these two ladies have a strong desire to bring awareness and a voice to the voiceless affected by this senseless crisis. Together they have enlisted talented writers, and the creative services of their peers in the literary community to create an anthology, build a media buzz, and establish a web presence that will be directly used to further our mission.

This Non-Profit venture is totally being presented by DONATIONS and SPONSORSHIP only. Our goal is to shed light on a topic that for centuries has been quietly swept under the rug. There are many organizations that deal with the issues Men, Women, and Children living with Domestic Violence and other abuses face on a daily basis. We at S.L.T.L. want to be representatives of those in the literary community who desire to lend their voices/pens, and talents to bring about a cure.

What better way than to join together, do what we love and create the stories behind the many faces. Thereby exposing stories we never hear about, the ones we silently ignore and some, many of our submitters themselves have actually endured.Our pray is that our efforts are met with an abundance of support. That way proving what we know in our hearts is true: we all want to be apart of the Movement to end Domestic Violence, thereby Saving Lives Through Lit.

LoTarsha "Sunny or Sunshine" Lee is well-known in Memphis and surrounding areas for her love of creative arts. She has been drawn into performing and teaching since her teenage years. She has been active in community service projects as long she can remember. As a native of Memphis, TN, she has been involved in many projects to display her love for working with disadvantage youth/troubled teens. Her heart cries to help empower our youth and encourage them to endure and excel no matter what the situation in their lives maybe at this moment in time. 

She uses her past hurts, experiences, and current circumstances to help motivate her and others. Her hardships inspired her to write plays, poetry, books, and teach in areas of creative arts to display the strengths and weaknesses of everyday issues in life. Performing helps display how she was healed in the areas of having low self-esteem, emotional distress, and lack of education. “You can conquer the hindrances in life; and those trials or mishaps may even pave the way for your success,” is her daily thought! While currently a student at Murray State University seeking a degree in an area of Organizational Communication and Minor in Youth and Non Profit Leadership she has enlarged her love for it all.

 LoTarsha has also embarked a new career field as a Motivational Speaker and Life Coach. Coaching is such an amazing and effectual way to experience positive change and results. When she was first introduced to Compass, she instantly knew this was where she was meant to be at this point in life. Now, she gets to spread her passion and excitement by helping women, like her; define their life and walk into their greatness. LoTarsha has written several self-published books entitled, “Damaged Diva now Defined-A Inspirational Book”, “Divine Divas Disposition-Journal to assist with daily inspiration from within” and “Few Petals Missing Yet I am still a Rose-Poetry Book.” 

She also designs: bookmarks, personalized accessories, calendars, notebooks, and any personalized items you may desire. LoTarsha continues to use her gift as a spoken word artist and as an inspirational dancer from time to time. Her source of motivation and strength is “I can do all things thru Christ that strengthens me!” She understands this concept because of the trial and errors of her life and others around her.

Divine Divas Sorority understands the need for a healthy environment. Therefore, one must understand your environment contributes to who we are and what we believe, and ultimately what we become. While our events stress the importance of commitment, and building relationships; they also emphasize the importance of the individual aspect. Divine Divas will use positive hip-hop music and dramatic fine arts to send a message of expectation and edification to our troubled youth. We want to address issues that have been saturated by negative images through media and negative connotations through the corridor of music. We have been formed to bring about a change during these trying times as a nation as a whole. We proclaim forward movement with diversity, integrity, and character.
